Yes, I Have An Addiction: Lip Balm

I've been addicted to lip balm/gloss/chapstick ever since I can remember. I'm always applying and have one on hand at all times. It started off in the 70's as a child when I first fell in love with Avon lip balms & glosses. These cute lip balms bring back such great memories of growing up. Did any of you have these? They still put a smile of my face every time I see them. These lip treatments were definitely a fashion statement at the time. A few of my favorite then (*and still):*Note: I obviously no longer still use these, just keep around for nostalgia and a good smile!
Pink Ice Cream Soda, Hershey's Chocolate Kiss, Pink Ice Cream Cone & Oreo Cookie

Growing up I also loved Suzie Chap Stick and my favorite was the cherry flavor-still is, it smells divine! I find it cool that the Chap Stick design has pretty much stayed the same throughout the years.

Classic Cherry Chapstick

The Village Bath lip tins were also a favorite but I didn't keep any of those tins. However, I found a company called Tinte Cosmetics that has a very similar product (strikingly similar) which I love. I know that technically this is gloss but...

Tinte Lip Colors in Cream Soda & Bubble Gum

And of course, Bonne Bell Lip Smackers. Who didn't have these? I still enjoy the Cotton Candy, Watermelon, Bubble Gum & Dr. Pepper flavors!

Bonne Belle Lip Smackers

Since I'm and adult (or older now) my lip balms are used more for protection, comfort and practicality rather than a fashion statement (but who doesn't love a cute container). I have a ton of colored lip glosses but the basic lip balms I tend to favor are:

Carmex-Economical and works great!

Blistex Medicated

And, one of my favorites has got to be Labello. Prep girl Mel likes them as well!

Velvet Rose, Classic and Pearl & Shine (light pink tint to it)

I also love Smith's Rosebud Strawberry, can you tell. I love the Minted Rose as well but the Strawberry smells divine. This tin has been around the block and back and it's still half full. I know the tin looks hideous but it's still kickin'! It lasts forever and I love it.

Rosebud Strawberry Lip Balm

So, I also tend to go for the natural/holistic/organic approach. These are some of my favorites.

The latest lip balm that I have purchased was in Spain and happens to be in the most elegant container. Gal Perfumeria comes in many flavors but I happened to be in a rush when I was selecting and didn't have the luxury of trying them all, it's a good thing I can get online!

Gal Collection in Red Currant, Vanilla & Violet

What are your favorites? As you can see, I'm an equal opportunity lip balm wearer. Anything I should try that you think is fabulous? I have tried many overpriced lip balms, not to mention any names but one wasn't as La Mervoulous as I thought it should be! So, am I the only obsessed lip fanatic out there?!? I doubt it! Anyone else out there an addict and know the toll-free number to LBAA (Lip Balm Addict Anonymous)?!?

I have not seen that Avon Hershey Kiss lip balm in decades. In fact, I had completely forgotten about them until I saw this photo. I do believe that stuff was the "gateway" into my lip balm addiction.

Ohhhh, I am right there with you in LBAA!

Where did you buy your Labello?
When I was in Spain I bought one that looks very similar to it (I don't remember the name and it's currently going through one of its lost phases) but this one is made in Madrid. I bought it at Le Corte Ingles and it's seriously the best lip mousturizer I've ever had. I think a revisit to Spain is needed so I can stock up on perfume and chap stick!

Dr. Pepper was by far my favorite of the Bonne Bell line. And I loved the minty chapstick the best. (As a kid I remember my brother eating a lot of my cherry one and I was never able to use it after that-ha!)

Oh my goodness, did I just write that much about chapstick?!

Aimee-so glad you can see where this all started!

Stefanie-so glad you're a member!
I get Labello at Merz Apothecary in Chicago but they sell it online at smallflower.com. I think I heard amazon sells it too, not sure. I LOVE El Corte Ingles, mucho shopping!

Oh, and what are brothers for if not to eat fruity chapsticks (they do sometimes smell good enough to eat)... too funny!

This is so fun- I am just giggling that you actually own al of these - and you merchandised them so well too! :-) So this brought back fond memories of the sliding tins that I used to have- forget who made them- but there were 3 in a pack chocolate-which taster the best but looked horrible, butterscotch and strawberry- I think they were a sundae theme and it was by Smuckers??

Now as a "big girl" you will love and your lips will feel like silk with ESPA lip balm in a tube- they sell it at the Peninsula Spa and it last forever- it keep it wiht my toothpaste- you onle need use it am and night and you will be soft and smooth for all lipsticks glosses all day- esp in brutal winter here-

Try it! Have a great day everyone

Wow! That is quite a collection. I do remember the Oreo. I do have to put on some kind of lip balm every night before bed. The lipstick I wear is the kind that doesn't come off until I remove it. Two addictions: something on my lips and hand lotion.

You're definitely not the only one. I'm borderline obsessed with Burt's Bees lip balm.

Oh. my. gosh. I have never seen such an impressive collection! I have Smith's too, but it's in the blue and white tin- great stuff and it lasts forever.

That is a lot of lip balm! I am a fan of Burt's Bees (lifeguard) for the beach and Kiehls!

So I assume your talking about Elisabeth Hasselbeck? not the her husband or brother in law???

I know nothing about a t-shirt, but there is an engagement arranged pending she leaves her husband...

I am not a fan of the view but if she ever became a conservative radio host or went on Fox News I would watch her more.

See.. Republicans are hotter... Hasselbeck or Rosie O'Donnell????? (I cringe at that name)

Cheers

That is an impressive collection! My regulars are Kiehls and the regular Smith's Rosebud. And for the beach I use Neutrogena chap stick because it has SPF.

I bought the pricey Fresh Sugar lip balm awhile ago and was not impressed at all!

Tres Poshe Preppy said...

PITP-I will try ESPA-thanks!

SLC-my other addiction is hand cream!

J- I love Fresh stuff but won't splurge since you weren't impressed, thanks. Neutrogena is a great classic!

Sean-YES, I want a TEAM HASSELBECK t-shirt to support my girl! ; )

Yep, count me in on this one. I love FRESH sugar lemon lip balm...awesome stuff. I have a lip balm in every drawer, purse, tote, makeup bag, beach bag, etc. The other day I dumped out my purse and had no fewer than 10 lip related products. And I wondered...what the hell is wrong with me? I love going overseas...for the lip balm!

Ditto on the hand and body lotions!

I love my burt's bees. I forgot about those sliding tin containers of lip gloss also. Did anyone have the really large round stick of lip balm that had a cord attached to the lid. I remember wearing that one around my neck skiing as a child. I don't remember the brand, but I'm leaning towards Bonnie B.

Is there a team Hasselbeck T already?

IF NOT ANS YOU WANT ONE ASAP... go to customizedgirl.com
Select womens tee- there is a pale pink and kelly green lettering- select TEAM fond and then type in your TEAM HASSLEBECK text-

17 bucks you will have it by tuesday-
I order gag gifts from them all the time and sometimes it takes like 2-3 days thats it!

Rosie os so classless- even IF she did have something good to say- she would still ruin it with her aggregious behavior- so glad this came up today as I have been gobsmaked since I saw it yesterday morning at the gym- everyone was like WTF is she thinking acting like such a cow.

Tres Poshe Preppy said...

snappycasualgifts-I do remember that lip balm with the cord, I don't remember who made it though...

PITP-No TEAM HASSELBECK t-shirt yet, but after yesterday, I SO want one! Thanks for the link! Very cool.

Stefanie said...

I have no idea where The View conversation came from, but heck yeah for Team Hasselbeck!

Did you see how rude Alicia Silverstone was after the fight?

Gosh, what bothers me the most about people like Rosie (interpret that as you will...) is that they preach openmindedness but only to those like them! Elizabeth gets called a crazy pyscho for standing up for her beliefs. But hey, sign me up for Team Hasselbeck as well!

CTPrep said...

Oh gosh, I though I had an addiction to lip glass... your collection puts mine to shame!

Tres Poshe Preppy said...

Yes, this went from lip balm to Elisabeth Hasselbeck-sorry!

PITP- I'm thinking pink sport jersey with green... I too read what I write sometimes and just think what the..., too funny!

Stefanie-NO, haven't seen what Alicia Silverstone said or did...it obviously can't be good!:(

I also looooved Bonne Bell "Kissing Sticks". Thanks for the lip balm memories. They made me smile.

PITP- I loooved those tins of lip balm. I forgot all about them!My fave was watermelon. :)

I was thinking about my big oreo lip gloss the other day. I also had the sliding tins. I've graduated to Kiehl's, Smith's Rosebud and Strawberry, and Burt's Bees. I also like Philosophy Kiss me and Stila lip pots tinted lip balm.

I use Palmer's Cocoa Butter swivel stick. It looks like a huge glue stick (and my students often ask me why I am putting glue on my lips) and it's really cheap, less than $2. It lasts forever and I haven't had chapped lips since using it!

I used to love lip smackers! My fav was the vanilla one!

julieb said...

I too love lipgloss but love even more that you are from Arizona! Just read your blog this a.m. for the first time from your edamame comment on Mel's blog. I am in desperate need for a preppy interior decorator for a vacation house we're building in Tucson. Do you have any recommendations - someone who appreciates traditional style and can blend it in with the desert lifestyle? Thanks so much.

Tres Poshe Preppy said...

Tammy B- I love Philosophy!
Melissa-I love the Palmer's! The size of it is great, not to mention the price!

Julie B-Thanks for stopping by! How exciting! Personally, I would go on asid.org and search the designer's in the Tucson area and you will find links to their websites so you can get an idea of their style. It's sometimes hard to mix the two styles but it can be done! Good luck to you!

Love this. I could see this little post in a magazine like Allure or Elle. What fun! Now I want to try some of the European ones. I am a lipgloss addict. We flew home from Denver last August on the first day no liquids were allowed. I went nuts without my lip gloss.
You are just a fabulous writer!

Oh my! This is an impressive collection. I've not tried half of these... I found my trusty Labello and stuck with it. You're inspiring me to branch out.
